We can see you in two types of virtual (online visits): live video visits and static photograph visits.
Live video visits are possible for established patients with medical insurances that our office accepts (Medicare and private insurances). These visits will be billed through your insurance. There is no guarantee about coverage for these visits, but Medicare has greatly relaxed their rules for these visits and private insurances are slowly doing to same. In some cases, copays and co-insurances might be waived for virtual visits, and in some cases they might be billed after the visit, depending on your particular insurance plan. Virtual visits may not be conducted for new patients.
If you are an established patient that would like to schedule a virtual visit that will be billed to your insurance, please send us an email at info@alexderm.net requesting a tele-dermatology live video consult.
To use this feature, you will need a web camera enabled device such as a smart phone with a camera, a tablet with a camera, or a computer with a web camera. We contact you through a text message (via the Doximity app) that will tell you that your doctor is trying to reach you via video conference. Once you receive that text, simply click on the link in the text to join the video conference. We also can use the Facetime™ app (Apple™) or Skype™ app, Duo™ app (Microsoft). In your email, please send us three, 10-minute blocks of time that you would be available between 8:00AM and 4:00PM Monday-Friday. The actual duration of your video visit will typically be limited to around 10 minutes. Please also send the phone number at which we can call you or text you. Our staff will attempt to contact you and notify you of your actual appointment time on our virtual schedule.
Static photograph visits are possible if you do not have medical insurance or do not want to do a live video visit. In that case, please click one of the below buttons to start a non-video (static) tele-dermatology visit with one of our doctors. These will not be billed through insurance and the cost of the visit is out of pocket.
Any patient who initiates a tele-dermatology visit with Dr. Bray must either be located in the Commonwealth of Virginia at the time of the encounter or they may also initiate a tele-dermatology visit if they are an established (not new) patient to our practice and are located in the adjacent state of Maryland and the nature of the visit is for continuity (follow up) of an existing problem. Any other patient who is not located in the commonwealth of Virginia, including folks located in the district of Columbia, at the time of the telehealth encounter may not use tele-dermatology services with Dr. Bray, who is currently only licensed to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Based on supply and demand, the actual provider may change, and patients may be offered tele-dermatology services through whichever dermatologist is available.
*If, after starting a teledermatology visit, you are forwarded to the Dermio platform, please do NOT choose any upgrades to video. Only still photos will be accepted at this time.
